When Is The Best Time To Take Iron?

People typically fall into the habit of taking their supplements all in one hit. While this makes it easier for us to remember to take them (we’re all guilty of forgetting sometimes) it’s not the best approach.

Different supplements should be taken at different times of the day to enhance absorption. Magnesium, for example, is best taken before bed  – it helps our body to relax and can do wonders for quality of sleep.

So “when is the best time to take iron?”, you ask? On an empty stomach.

Where most vitamins and supplements are best taken with a meal, iron is better absorbed on an empty stomach. This can be first thing in the morning, one hour before a meal, or two hours after.

There is a long list of foods, such as coffee, tea or milk, which interfere with the absorption of ferrous iron which is why the best time to take iron is when you’re not eating or drinking.

The addition of Vitamin C in our specialised Ferrous +C formula means you should experience no stomach discomfort or side effects.

However, every body is different. If you find that taking Ferrous +C on an empty stomach causes discomfort, then taking your supplement after a meal or in the evening is recommended.

Remember to always consult a healthcare professional before use.
